Fast Fashion/Furniture DeTox: Fundraiser and Student Sale!

JAR Farms co-founder Athena Goldstein leads workshops on the environmental toll of fast fashion and fast furniture and how to upcycle your way out of the addiction. At this evening fundraiser, you’ll hear from the extraordinary teens who have spent the summer upcycling their way back into Mother Earth’s good graces. What’s more: You can buy what they’ve produced!

Proceeds from furniture sales will go to extending the JAR Farms mission via scholarships for those who can’t afford tuition. You’ll leave with more unique, beautiful, upcycled items than you could have bought at the store, but also you’ll be honoring the angst our generation feels about the planet and our efforts to be the change we want to see.

Use Your Words: The Power of Telling Your Own Story

Few things are as powerful as telling your own story, and few things feel as destabilizing as having someone determine your story for you.

When someone feels control over their own narrative and how others perceive them, the amygdala physically changes, often reducing anxiety and depression, through nothing more than your words. Learning to write, tell and live in your own story can help us figure out where we fit in the world, demand our place in it, and be the unapologetic and unique person we are meant to be.

Crying in Whole Foods: An Evening with Angie Kim

Superstar author Angie Kim is coming to JAR Farms for a teen writing workshop, but. . . hey! What about the moms? We decided to throw a party for the entire community while she is here. Angie will talk about her New York Times Bestselling Book (and also Good Morning America book club pick!) “Happiness Falls” which is being made into a movie.

Being an author is Angie’s FIFTH career— born of a breakdown in Whole Foods over her stress as a working mom. She’s an incredible inspiration to never settle or give up on your passions.

We’ll have beer and wine, farm-to-table appetizers and both of Angie’s incredible books for sale!

For Girl Parents: An Indispensable Guide to the Teen and Tween Years

Tween and teen years can be some of the most powerful, memorable, terrifying, and emotional. For parents and their kids.

Our culture is particular disdainful, critical of, and unforgiving towards teenage girls. What if instead of trying to contain their ferocity, we embraced it?

Chelsey Goodan has spent a career mentoring teenage girls, often being the “other adult” they can talk to about anything. In her incredible new book “Underestimated: The Wisdom and Power of Teenage Girls”, she gives parents a hopeful message about the power of their daughters, and an indispensable guidebook on how to get on their side.

Girl Power Trip

“Girl power” looks great on a glittery t-shirt but how do we actually cultivate and unleash that power in us?

How do we keep the world from making us conform, be “likable”, go along, and be “good girls”? How do we seize the raw power of being a girl and keep it from getting squashed as we enter adolescence?

Have we put too much pressure on girls to be the emotional center of the world, but also as tough and achieving as men?

Intentional Masculinity: An Afternoon with Vince Matoska Chafin

For Gen Z and Generation Alpha, there’s shame attached to many of the outdated ideas of masculinity. . . so what should take the place of it? How can we coach our sons towards an authentic version of manhood that doesn’t make anyone cringe or get cancelled?

There is no better person to lead a conversation on this than Vince Matoska Chafin.
