Meet the Dogs!

By Athena

Our McNab Shepherd Dogs are a huge part of JAR Farms, whether patrolling the property or adding love and excitement to the environment. They love to roam the beaches, trees, orchards, gardens, and waters on the farm—often tracking in water from the bay after their morning swims, bringing in rouge apples, or meeting new friends on the beach (they love the kayakers). Incredibly friendly, they will be the first to greet you if you decide to visit JAR Farms!

Lucky:

Lucky is a goofy boy, or as my friends like to say: the “doggest dog”. The youngest of the pack, Lucky is the patroller of the property. By the time I wake up in the morning, Lucky has made his round of the property, taken a swim in the ocean, and eagerly awaits his breakfast. Not only has he gone for his morning walk, but he has scared off any birds that have so rudely perched on his domain. Adventurous, he is up for anything. Lucky’s favorite things are paddleboard rides, sticks, the hose, belly rubs, and beef. He doesn’t like the “go home” command, seagulls, when humans bark at him (interestingly enough), the broom, and being scolded.

Xena:

Xena is a sweet girl. A middle child, she is anxious for any attention directed towards her, or any that the other dogs may be stealing from her. Every morning, she sits outside my door awaiting cuddles. That is, if she hasn’t opened my door (yes, she can open round door knobs) and snuggled under my covers. She’s my shadow during the day, acting as a living rumba in the kitchen, a heating pad in my bed, and guard dog only when the other dogs are around—it’s an attack if they ask for pets! Xena’s favorite things are snuggles, rubs, pets, fetch (only if she beats the other dogs), praise, and ham. She doesn’t like loud noises, being left alone, sharing, the vacuum, and falling in the pool.

Calli:

Calli is our chill dog. She is more like a cat than a dog. She loves to lay at the foot of my bed, or outside under the sun. Don’t get me wrong, although she likes to lay around she is not lazy. She is incredibly quick and agile which grants her the upper paw during fetch. You can find her scouting for small animals around the property or asserting her dominance over Xena. Calli’s favorite things are soft blankets, back scratches, racing around the beach, dog bones, and couches. She doesn’t like vegetables, squirrels, rats, mice, birds, the other dogs invading her personal space, being picked up, and the vacuum.
